Dog pancreatitis begins for unknown reasons and quickly becomes a worrying and uncomfortable illness for your dog that can also be very damaging to the dog’s body and vital organs. To rectify this condition though may take constant observations and medication for a period of time from the vet. Pancreatitis can occur for no known reason. There are also various things that can cause it.

Pancreatitis is a severe inflammation of the pancreas. If left untreated can kill your puppy. Pancreatitis in dogs occurs when digestive enzymes in the pancreas begin to break down tissue. This life-threatening disease usually affects older, female dogs. Pancreatitis is an inflammation of the pancreas due to a variety of causes. Pancreatitis can be caused by irregular blood levels of things such as fats or calcium.

Fat trimmings and very fatty foods should always be avoided as this can trigger pancreatitis in dogs and cats. Pancreatitis can be a very unpredictable disease. In most cases, if the pancreatitis was mild and the pet only had one episode, chances of recovery are good, and avoiding high fat foods may be all that is necessary to prevent recurrence or complications.

Pancreatitis and enteritis are treated in very similar ways. While the course of treatment depends on the severity of the pancreatitis, most of the time doctors will withhold food and water from your pet for at least 24 hours to give the pancreas a rest.
